Long Weekend Already?

It feels like a lot of people forgot that we have this monday off... myself included, but I'll never turn down an extra day to sleep in :)

Stuff I'll be up to this weekend:
  • Baking cookies
  • Taking Ruby to her first Birthday Party (Sophie is turning one!)
  • Going to the Roughnecks game, and trying not to feel sad
  • Trying not to get too drunk after the Roughnecks game to drown my sorrows/awkwardness
  • Going to the Farmer's Market to pick up essentials, and try to avoid the delicious allure of tacos or "La Créperie"
  • Setting up my Wii so I can play all the games that aren't on the PSNetwork
  • Sleeping
  • Buying Leggings
Any big plans for the Long Weekend Dear Internet?

Happy Lamentines

Happy Valentines Day! I will be spending mine by going into work early for a teleconference and then watching/listening to a rotund man with a neckbeard speak at the Glenbow... there may be heart shaped pizza involved.

Here are some retro valentines that I found funny...
Love is making light of cannibalism
I just think this one is cute...
Yams are obviously the most appropriate food stuff to celebrate Valentines Day with...

Calgary Eats

I wrote this post back in September 2011... So it's old, but it's still pretty relevant I think. New commentary is in fancy pants italics.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

So "Where" magazine published their list of "75 Tastes of Calgary", basically dishes that are unique to Calgary, or make Calgary Unique. Here's the list, and I've commented on all the dishes that I've tried.

  1. “The Whole Truck” at Alley Burger Food Truck • I've had the Alley Burger (or rather it's Charcut counterpart), but I have yet to make it down to the Alley Burger Food Truck... dieting and my adversity to large lineups are mostly to blame. I've since had the 'Whole Truck Buger' and the fries from the Alley Burger truck... a decent burger, and a good size, but a bit expensive for what you get.
  2. Grilled Cheese at Janice Beaton • Yes, I had their Gruyère Sandwich, it was divine
  3. The Crave-O-Licious Cupcake at Crave Cookies and Cupcakes • I've had a Crave-o-licious, but I prefer the Peppermint Patty. I was once hired to work at Crave but turned them down... true story!
  4. Vegetarian Pad Thai at Delicious Thai
  5. Ricotta Gnocchi at Capo • I can't afford Capo prices...
  6. The Masala Mogo at Safari Grill •.
  7. Scones by Sidewalk Citizen Bakery • Hell Yes! I prefer the savoury scones, but that's mostly because I'm a cheese whore
  8. A Latte at DeVille Luxury Coffee & Pastries • They have a Nutella Latte, so yes, I've tried this
  9. Bone Marrow and Foie Gras Spring Roll at Rouge • Nor can I afford Rouge

A New Approach

So I haven't been posting much... or at all really. There are reasons for that, mostly laziness, but also because not much has been going on in my life. I'm also not a big fan of talking about myself all the time, and since the majority of my friends have left town, and I'm newly single, it's basically me time all the time. I could talk about Ruby, but I also don't want to allow myself to slowly descend into Pug Lady territory. So yeah... lack of posting.

Not to say that stuff hasn't been going on, I just didn't particularly feel like I was in the right mindset to regale you with tales. I saw a few plays, but Jenna will be covering those. I went to Lucha Vavoom, which was fantastic, but I didn't take any digital pictures, so you'll have to wait for my film to be developed, which could take a while. I was also really drunk, so there's a good chance that the photos won't turn out. I will say that I got to sing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" at the top of my lungs whilst a man dressed as an evil monkey dead lifted a cave girl. That was pretty awesome, that and I discovered Licor 43... which was probably why I was so drunk.

I also made a new years goal (goal, not resolution, goals give me something to aim for, resolutions basically set me up for failure) to lose 20lbs by June. This is mostly because then I'll be ~130lbs, which is my supposedly 'healthy' BMI weight, and I'm going house boating July long weekend, and I want to look *HAWT*... so I'm trying to eat healthier (low carb/low sugar), and work out more. It's been pretty slow going, I've pretty much flat lined all of January, but at least I didn't gain any weight. I gained 7lbs between Xmas and mid-January, so I have that to lose, before I get to my post-Japan weight. So I've started climbing again, and last night, I even went swimming. I also signed up for a Burlesque class that starts in March, which isn't so much exercise, but it is scary, terrifying (solo performance at the end of 10wks), hopefully, heaps of glittery fun.

The Boy, or I guess I can call him Matt now... is all moved out now. Approx 80% of his stuff is gone, which is good enough for me, I assume the remaining 20% will either get assimilated to become mine, or will slowly find it's way back to him. That being said, my place is still a huge mess, and I need to clean it, and I haven't. I have a few projects I want to kick off, but I need space, which I currently don't have, so I need to get a move on the cleaning. A few projects on the docket: conversation heart maple nutmeg cookies, masking double exposures with xmas lights, and some yarn wall art.

I'm going to try to take a more casual approach to blogging, not stream of consciousness, twitter type blogging, but less words, more often. I'm going to borrow my Dad's DSLR, and try to teach myself how to use it, so maybe there willl be even more photos!

Oh, and if you like photos of pugs, I'm a bit more active on tumblr.
