It was a pretty busy weekend, that being said I did manage to sneak in a nap or two. I had my folks over Friday night for a BBQ, the first time I've hosted them since I've moved in. Yes, I know, bad daughter, but to be fair, my family doesn't really do the "home cooked family meal" thing very often. We eat out... a lot, if there is anything to be celebrated, we eat out. If we've realized that we haven't seen each other in over a fortnight, we eat out, that's just how we roll. We do come from Hong Kong stock after all.
Anyways, I stuck with some classics so I wouldn't embarrass myself by making something new and unknown. I made Maple Rosemary Sticky Ribs, which was by far the crowd favourite, Pork Satay with peanut sauce, and a simple salad with balsamic dressing. For dessert I made Bubble Waffle Balls (aka Egg Puffs, or Gai Dan Zai) using my fancy egg puff pan, but they turned out too dense and cakey... I need to work on my technique. The one's you can get at dessert bars, or at the Richmond night market are much more crispy and hollow inside.
Saturday was a whirlwind... I went to the gym, walked the dog, went to the Farmer's market, got a tattoo, and then promptly fell asleep at 8:30pm... skipping out on a play with Jenna (I know I'm a bad friend). That being said, the tattoo looks pretty sweet... but I'll do a full write up of that later.
| You don't get to see the real thing yet, mostly because it's peeling and kinda gross. So you'll have to make do with the artist's rendering. Also I'm getting it coloured in two weeks... |
Sunday was a bit slower, the boy and I slept in and then wandered down to Eau Claire for the BBQ on the Bow festival and BBQ competition. The winner in our eyes, was Big T's chili cheese fries, but I'll never say no to pulled pork. We brought along the pug and she met some other canine BBQ enthusiast, like a pair of really annoying chihuahua/jack russell/pug mixes... not all small dogs are yappy, screechy menaces, Ruby is proof of that, if you have a small dog, train it to behave well! We then made the long (a least for the Boy and the Pug) walk back home, to nap... we woke up just in time to make a quick dash to Canadian tire so Boy could pick up a new tool bag, and I could buy this...
| Yes that is a giant stock pot... big enough to hold my Pug |
On Monday I made, and canned tomato sauce, and then Jenna came over, with Sophie, to make some meatballs. I'll be co-blogging about that later too...
